Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost?

We do have a suggested retail price list that we use as a guide. We do not post them on the site as we find that each bike is slightly different because of the custom nature of our business. We have many questions that need to be asked before we can price the product properly and accurately.

Some Payment Options that we offer: Visa, American Express, cheques or money orders and bank wires. We also offer financing, rent or lease options. See our Financial option section.

Will I be able to utilize this mobility device with my disability?

Yes! In most instances where there is some form of movement in the legs with the proper combination of traditional physical therapy and our mobility device, most people can propel the devices on their own. I have personally seen many people, (particularly small children with Cerebral Palsy who are in a wheel chair) ride our mobility devices.

How old do I have to be?

It's certainly not an age thing; it's strictly a size thing. The Discovery DCP Mini model can suit a child of 18 months. Our other bikes are appropriate for a teenager or a senior.

How long does it take to get?

On average our little bikes, the Discovery Series, are 2 to 4 weeks; the Adventurer Singles are 3 to 6 weeks; and the Adventure Tandem and Journey take about 6 to 12 weeks all depending on the time of year. We understand that some of you, like us in 'Winterpeg', have a short cycling season and want it right away - we will do our best to get it to you quickly without sacrificing quality and the individual attention that each hand crafted device gets. Delivery time also depends on in stock items, and more common colors please call us at 1-800-661-9915 for more information.

Some suggestions for extending your bike season: Keep in mind that we also have indoor trainers you can set your mobility device into your physical education program. Check with your local Mall, many have walking programs in the early mornings and are more than willing to allow a mobility device in the program.

What size of Mobility device is good for me? (which device best suits my needs):

We definitely need your total height, weight, and inseam length at a minimum. We always recommend that you also fill out one of our Evaluation Forms.

Does any one ever get funding? (are these devices covered by insurance?)

Yes. However, it is not without some work on your behalf. Here's how some have been successful:

  1. Get your orthopedic surgeon to write up an order.
  2. Have your Physical or Occupational Therapist fill out the evaluation sheet and possibly write up a medical justification letter.
  3. Do a personal letter stating why you need the device.
  4. Have your General Practitioner or Pediatrician make up a letter of need.
  5. Send along a copy of our device.
  6. The old saying "Squeaky wheel gets the grease" definitely applies here. We can help you with samples of these types of letters and forms that past customers have shared with us. Many of which are in our Testimonial section.

If all that work fails don't give up - we have a number of financial options available to you, as well as there are many social groups in your area that are always willing to help individuals and families like yourselves. For example, Elks, Lions, Kinsmen, Shriners, and associations such as Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida, Muscular Dystrophy, CNIB etc. However, always remember point number 6 above - "The squeaky wheel gets the grease!"

Please Contact Us with any other questions that were not answered above.
